Prior to coming to the Bar, Julie Zhou was a Senior Lawyer at Monash University, specialising in public and administrative law and disciplinary proceedings.
Julie practises in Administrative Law, Industrial & Employment Law, and Commercial Law. She is also a sessional lecturer at RMIT University.
Julie also held various in-house counsel roles in the public sector. She was a commercial lawyer at Public Transport Victoria, where she gave legal advice on infrastructure projects, including on the myki retender. Julie was also a lawyer at the Commonwealth Department of Human Services (DHS), first in Canberra, and then in Melbourne at the national office where she represented the department in social security and child support litigation. She also managed employment disputes and discrimination claims, gave legal advice on FOI and privacy compliance, as well as responding to merits reviews of FOI decisions.
