General profile
Peter practices in planning and environment law, commercial law and criminal law with particular emphasis on regulatory offences. He is an experienced trial and appellate advocate.
Peter was Principal Lawyer to the Environment Protection Authority Victoria in 2016/17, whilst also practising at the Queensland Bar, which he has done since 2013. He has experience in Victorian courts, tribunals and hearings, having appeared in numerous prosecutions for environmental offences as well as reviews before VCAT in respect of a variety of environmental and planning issues and environmental effects and government inquiry hearings for major infrastructure projects, including the West Gate Tunnel Project.
Peter’s experience at the Queensland Bar covers advocacy work (both led and unled) in applications and trials before the Supreme, District, Planning & Environment, Land and Magistrates Courts on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants as well as extensive advisory work to both private and public-sector clients, including developers, Councils and infrastructure authorities. He has been counsel assisting in disciplinary tribunals constituted by national sporting organisations.
Peter is known for his sound pragmatic and commercial approach, drawing on his private industry management experience as well as over 18 years’ legal experience as a solicitor and barrister. Prior to his call to the Bar, he worked as In-house Counsel for state government departments, an infrastructure authority as well as a solicitor in top-tier law firms.
With litigation experience in Victoria and Queensland, Peter can be briefed to act and advise in cross-jurisdictional matters.
