General Profile
Amit has significant experience as a trial advocate, encompassing all aspects of criminal law. He has also appeared as an appellate advocate in the Court of Appeal in New Zealand and Victoria and in matters involving the Serious Sex Offenders (Detention and Supervision) Act, the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Fitness to be Tried) Act and for examinees in compulsory examinations.
Amit began his career as a solicitor with the Western Aboriginal Legal Service based in Dubbo, NSW (2001-2002) and has previously worked as a Barrister (2007-2012) and Public Defender (2012-2014) in New Zealand before joining Victoria Legal Aid as an in-house advocate in 2014.
He also accepts briefs in in quasi-criminal areas, including coronial inquests, disciplinary tribunals, investigations and Royal Commissions.
Amit lectures in Evidence Law as part of RMIT University’s Juris Doctor Program and is on Victoria Legal Aid’s Criminal Trial Preferred Barrister List. He holds an Indictable Crime Certificate.
